             Most people assume CASB and DLP mean buying two more products and stitching them into the traffic path. With Cato, that mental model is wrong — and it shows in an interview.

## ① The problem — SaaS sprawl, Shadow IT and data leaking out

 Two everyday risks keep security teams up at night. First,  SaaS sprawl and Shadow IT : people sign up for cloud apps on their own, so the org has no list of what is in use, which apps are risky, or what data is going into them. Second,  sensitive data leaking out  — a customer spreadsheet uploaded to a personal cloud drive, payment-card data pasted into a random web app.

 The traditional fix was bolting on a separate  CASB  and a separate  DLP  product, each with its own console and its own place in the path.  Cato's advantage is that everything already flows through it. And because it is part of SASE, the same policy applies to all edges — every site and every remote user — with no per-location config. ### The dependency and the pitfalls All of this rests on TLS inspection : SaaS and web traffic is HTTPS, so Cato must decrypt it to see activity and file content. No TLS inspection = no visibility , and both CASB activity controls and DLP go blind. The other classic mistakes: using all-or-nothing app blocking instead of activity controls, and turning on broad DLP data types without tuning , which buries real incidents under false positives. Sneha at a Hyderabad fintech faces this Despite a Cato DLP rule meant to stop customer PII leaving, a finance analyst uploads a customer spreadsheet to a personal cloud drive and nothing is blocked or logged. Likely cause TLS inspection is not enabled for that user group, so Cato sees only encrypted traffic and can't read the SaaS activity or the file content — CASB and DLP are effectively blind. Diagnosis In the Cato Management Application the CASB & DLP rule shows zero hits for that app, and the user group is excluded from TLS inspection. Prove it with TLS on and a test upload Never assume a DLP rule works. Confirm TLS inspection is enabled for the group, then run a controlled upload of a benign test file containing the data type. Watch the rule hit and the event log. If there is no hit, TLS inspection or the data-type scope is the first suspect.
